Photographing Your Kids
Children Are the Best Models
It’s that time of year, time to get the little one’s photos taken! I love working with kids, especially newborns. For the most part, kids are probably the easiest to photograph because there are only a few rules the photographer needs to follow to get the perfect picture.
The most important thing to remember when photographing a kid, be a kid. What do I mean by that? You were a kid once, but a kid has never been an adult. Put yourself in their shoes and act like a kid! Make noises, get down on their level, make them laugh. If you can do that, you might have a chance.
Kids have the patience of a cat. Yeah, you can get their attention for a few minutes, but after that, you need treats to keep it. So, you must be quick. Set up the photo but take several pictures while they are moving. Don’t be scared, just keep taking pictures. If you manage to get a few good shots, you did a great job.
Pet Peeves
One of my pet peeves when witnessing other photographers taking pictures of kids, screaming at them to smile. That just scares them, and it frustrates not only you but them as well. When taking photos of children, use your indoor voice and don’t get frustrated when they don’t smile the way you want. That is their smile and you telling them to smile just makes them have a worse smile. Just make them giggle and laugh, you’ll get a great picture!
Lastly, don’t be scared to take a bad picture. Which picture do you think you are going to show their boyfriend or girlfriend when they are 16, the good one or the goofy one? Goofy pictures are the ones you will talk about for the rest of their lives.
Kids are probably the easiest clients I take pictures of. All you must do to get them to take a good picture is to remember what it was like when you were a kid. Remember, we are digital, while in my day, we were film. During the days of film, if you wanted to see your pictures, you would have to pay money to have them developed. In today’s world, you can take as many as you want and see them instantly. Go out there and make some memories and don’t forget to print your pictures https://photo.walgreens.com/store/home. You won’t regret it.
