What Do You Listen To At Your Photoshoot??

Music for your Ears

You booked your photographer, and you get to your shoot.    You are not feeling very inspired because the room is silent.   The photographer says I can take care of that and puts on Speed Metal.  The baby starts to scream, you start to scream, and the photoshoot is ruined. This is an exaggerated scenario, but you get the idea.  If your photographer doesn’t pay attention, it will not be a good shoot.

I have been doing photography for a long time and I can tell you one thing, music can make or break a good shoot.  You should never go to your photoshoot without your inspiration, what makes your baby, family, you tick.   What relaxes you?  I listen to it all, pop, metal, rap, classical but it doesn’t matter what I like.  It only matters what my client likes.

If you were taking pictures for senior pics, the above scenario might be a good thing.  With the way we listen to music today, there is no excuse to not make your clients day.  Your photographer should listen to what you want or not what they want.

Bring an Idea

The first thing I do, when I am doing a shoot is ask the client, what kind of music they like.   My favorite answer is “anything”.    That doesn’t really help the situation.   For me, I take a step back and say to myself, what would they like?    It really doesn’t make a difference what I like.  However, since I like almost all of it, I don’t really care.    Then I make a suggestion.    Taylor swift is a huge choice especially with the younger crowd.    Go to YouTube and put in Taylor Swift.  There should be a playlist of either all her music or the kind of music that is similar.

Just Have A Good Time

Depending on what you are trying to do, there are so many different types of playlists out there.   I have my own playlist on my phone that I can connect to a warless speaker.    Several actually so I can my you a very happy client.  I also can deliver old school music on records, cassette, cd’s, etc.    I highly recommend bringing your own music.  Anything my clients bring, I can play, just about.

Its all about you and your shoot, remember that.  You have to feel comfortable with your photoshoot.   What you listen to during the photoshoot can make or break your mood.   So remember, enjoy yourself, bring your favorite snacks, bring a friend, just know it’s your day.   Enjoy your next shoot.
